「通州事件」の資料として重要なものの一つに、東京裁判で通州救援にかけつけた部隊の責任者三人の宣誓供述書があります。公式文書はカタカナ、旧カナですが、ひらがな、新かなに直してあります。なお、英文は、やはり東京裁判の公式資料となっているものを使っております。
今回は、歩兵第２連隊小隊長桜井文雄少佐の証言です。通州救援に向かい、７月３０日午後４時ころに城内に入り、掃討隊長として部下小隊を指揮して通州城内南半分の掃討を行いました。その折に見た日本人居留民の虐殺の惨状を宣誓供述しております。また、自ら撮った写真を提出しております。

③Sworn Deposition by Major SAKURAI, Fumio
This is the fourth of a series of articles pertaining to the Tongzhou Massacre, which has been submitted for inclusion in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register; a sworn deposition from the official record of the “Tokyo Trials”.
Sworn deposition number two was made by Major Sakurai, who was Platoon Commander of the 2nd Regiment stationed in China.
He was ordered to rescue Japanese residents in Tongzhou, where he entered at about 4: p.m. of July 30. As a platoon leader he was ordered to sweep the southern half of the walled city. He closely saw the spectacle of the massacre of Tongzhou. He testified to what he saw at that time in a sworn deposition. (Translation into English was done by Defense Language Branch of the Court).
